Mandago Tosha: Nasa backs Jubilee governor’s re-election bid
In a great twist of events, the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) has endorsed the re-election of Jubilee Party’s gubernatorial candidate and Uasin Gishu Governor, Jackson Mandago.
Speaking during NASA’s campaign rally at 64 Stadium in Eldoret on Wednesday, July 26, the opposition leaders called upon residents to vote for Governor Mandago, insisting that he is the right man to propel the county to the ‘promised land’.
“If my vote was for Uasin Gishu County, I could vote – without doubt – for Governor Mandago for a second term. We, NASA, are fully behind Governor Mandago,” said NASA presidential running-mate, Kalonzo Musyoka.
Governor Mandago, who will be facing off with independent candidate Zedekiah Bundotich alias Buzeki in the August 8 polls, has in the past accused President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto of supporting the candidature of his opponent.
Although he trounced Mr. Buzeki in the Jubilee Party primaries, Governor Mandago at some point threatened to de-campaign the ruling coalition in the Rift Valley region if the leadership does not stop from meddling in local politics.
Although the DP in May 2017 publicly denounced rumors that he supports the candidature of the businessman by calling upon him to shelve his ambitions and support Governor Mandago, political pundits have argued that the move was just a PR to cool tempers of a possible rift in the Rift Valley Region.
