Mandera Governor Convoy Attacked By Militia
The Friday morning attack is believed to have been well planned by the unknown militia.
Two vehicles carrying a group of elders and police officers are said to have gone missing since the 9:30 am attack.
This is the fourth attempt on the Governor's life.
The county government officials were on a field trip for public participation meetings.
Several people are said to have been injured in the incident.
In October 2014, the Governor escaped unhurt after an improvised explosive device blew up as his convoy passed through Mandera Town.
The Governor escaped unhurt while his bodyguard was injured the attack.
TERROR ATTACKS
He was heading to his office in a convoy of four vehicles when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded, damaging one of the vehicles.
"This is another assassination attempt on my life after my office was attacked twice previously," he said..
"We were in a convoy of four vehicles. The first three vehicles, including the one I was in, passed well but the fourth one was hit. It’s only by the grace of God that my car and two other security escorts were not affected."
Mandera has been rocked recently by insecurity, including terror attacks and clan conflicts that have left several people dead.
In early August 2014, eight armed men hurled grenades at the Mandera County government offices, damaging one side of the building.
