Mandera Quarry Workers Jailed For Defying Security Warning

20 workers who defied police orders to leave the quarry in Mandera where 36 others were massacred last year have been fined 60,000 shillings. A Mandera court alternatively sentenced the workers to 5 months for risking their lives at the quarry that is near the border with Somalia and that is considered an easy target for Al-Shabaab militia. but as Silvia Chebet reports, the ruling is heavy with irony as the government maintains it will sack teachers posted to the area who have declined to report back citing insecurity.
