Manual, electronic systems are prone to errors CORD

The opposition Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of flouting the law by commissioning the voter register audit.

CORD leader Raila Odinga told Citizen TV on Thursday, December 22 evening that IEBC has no commissioners and cannot sanction any electoral process for now.

“The IEBC as it stands has no commissioners and until such a time when new commissioners are installed, then the voter register audit cannot go on.”

“The voter register audit was part of the negotiations that led to the Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2016 and cannot be conducted by the commissioners we removed from office,” noted Odinga.

He said that the agreement between  the opposition and the Jubilee faction was to conduct the voter register audit using the biometric system.

On the amendments to the election laws, Odinga said that the Jubilee administration is tampering with laws so that it can easily rig the 2017 elections.

He said by re-introducing the manual voter identification and election results transmission systems was a way of manipulating the polls.

He, however, acknowledged that systems are prone to errors but insisted that the country should not look back and by reinstating a manual electoral system.
