Marburg Virus Fears In Turkana

The county administration has further ordered the increased screening of all visitors passing through border points in the region.

This was after a health worker in neighbouring Uganda died after being infected with the Marburg virus.

The county government has also deployed a team of doctors and nurses to the four border points; Lokiriama, Urum, Nadapal and Nakitongo with Uganda.

County government officials insist that they are well prepared for the task ahead.

Local residents have however expressed concern that the lack of a proper and stable mobile phone network in the area has hampered the ability of the teams deployed to the border regions to urgently communicate with their headquarters in the event of an emergency.
