Married man kills girlfriend, self after break up

A 23-year-old man in Thika committed suicide after allegedly killing his 27-year-old girlfriend following a bitter breakup conflict on Saturday.

Timothy Ndirangu, a married father of two, allegedly strangled Grace Wanjiru after she ended their three-month old turbulent relationship.

According to Ndirangu’s father, Musyoki Musembi, the couple fought bitterly on Thursday, January 25 after a disagreement ensued between them. The two were separated but reunited two days later, when the incidents occurred.

Musembi said Wanjiru reported Ndirangu to Ngoliba Police Station, where he was ordered to stay away from her. It was then that the couple decided to end their affair.

Wanjiru, who hailed from Nguku Village in Kandara Constituency, Murang’a County was a teacher whereas Ndirangu was a welder in Thika.

The two lived together in a rental house, which was located a few meters from her workplace.

According to Ndirangu’s sister, Mary, her brother reunited with his wife last Thursday after bringing to an end his affair with Wanjiru.

A caretaker, who was cleaning the houses, which Wanjiru and Ndirangu lived in among other people, discovered the two, when a strong stench of decomposing bodies emanated from the one-roomed house. Wanjiru’s body was lying on the bed, while Ndirangu’s body was dangling on a rope tied to the eaves of the house.

According to a cousin, she had been warned repeatedly by her family against dating a married man.

Thika East Assistant County Commissioner Alex Kaburu confirmed the incident.

The bodies of the two were taken to General Kago Mortuary in Thika.
