Marwa accuses Coast police officers of sleeping on their jobs

Coast Regional Coordinator, Nelson Marwa, has expressed concerns over increasing cases of insecurity in Mombasa and blamed some security officials of failing to do their job, a matter that has caused an influx in drug trafficking and robbery attacks against the coastal people.

This comes less than a week after a police vehicle carrying more than 20 people including administration police officers heading to Kiunga area was destroyed after overrunning a landmine killing four police officers and four school-going children.

Marwa says more security officers should be deployed in Boni forest in a bid to deal with increasing cases of terror attacks by suspected Al Shabab militants in the area.

He urged locals living along Boni forest to work closely with police and give information to enable them address the insecurity problem.

Speaking after he made an impromptu tour at Mtongwe Ferry Thursday, June 29 dawn, Marwa instructed police bosses in the county to explain why they had withdrawn security from the area.

Marwa also accused a section of Mombasa police of protecting Mombasa Governor, Hassan Ali Joho’s illegal activities in the county.

He pointed out on Wednesday, June 28 incident where gubernatorial aspirant, Hezron Awiti’s billboards were pulled down under police supervision as part of impunity that should not be entertained by police officers.

He insisted that all candidates should be given an opportunity to sell their ideas fairly.
