Maseno University students kill man in mistaken identity case

A stand off ensued between Maseno University students and police on Tuesday night after the students allegedly killed a man suspected of attacking a female trader at the local market.

The students reportedly retaliated believing that the injured female trader, who had been attacked with a panga, was a fellow student.

Kisumu County police commander Titus Yoma confirmed the incident as he condemned the killing.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on phone, Maseno University student leader Fred Mkojos said that the varsity students realised their mistake when it was too late.

Mkojos further added; “The school has witnessed lots of insecurity arising from suspected criminals from the local community.”

Operations at the university have normalised with students attending classes on Wednesday morning.

In October 2016, Maseno University students lynched a man in retaliation after one of their students was killed.
