Massive Kisii Sculpture To Be Airlifted To The US
This will make Kenya to be the first East African country to showcase it's products at the festival
The carving is that of an elephant with an inscription 'hands off our elephants"
The purpose of the piece of art is to bring global attention to the problem of poaching and help bring to an end ivory trade.
The art work was done by Elkanah Ongesa, a world reowned Kenyan scultor.
His sculpture Dancing Birds has adorned the entrance of UNESCO building in Paris, France since 1976 while his other carving ‘Dancing Birds’ was erected at the entrance of the US embassy in Nairobi in 2010
Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi said that the community was privileged to represent the country in the annual festival that will see 125 Kenyans travel to the USA for the festival.
Kisii soapstone is sold worldwide, and several works by the Kisii artists have found a place in major international art collections.
