Matatu crew who pushed woman out of moving bus charged with murder

Two matatu operators who allegedly caused the death of a student along Thika Superhighway were on Monday arraigned in court and charged with murder.

The two, Amos Muigai Mwangi and Alex Musembi Musyoka, are alleged to have committed the offence on June 13, 2018 at Queen of Apostle Church.

They, however, did not answer to the murder charge. This is after the court was told that the second accused person — Alex Musembi Musyoka — did not have a lawyer to represent him.

High Court judge James Wakiaga directed that the accused person be given a lawyer to represent him during the trial.

The matter will be mentioned on June 19 when the two accused persons are expected to take plea.

It is alleged that the second-year student of Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (NIBS) died after she was pushed from a moving vehicle along Thika Road.

According to post-mortem results, Doreen Kinya Mwiti suffered a broken skull and had also sustained bruises on her arm and face as well as a broken arm.
