Maternal and New Born Bill to change lives in Nakuru

Maternal and New Born Bill to change lives in Nakuru

A Nakuru executive on Wednesday, February 15 vowed to work with the Nakuru Civil Society Organizations(CSO) and the County Assembly to push for the implementation of the Nakuru Maternal and New Born Bill, 2014, after amendments are made.

During the consultative meeting to discuss the Bill, Nakuru County Secretary for Health, Dr Mungai Kabii, said the executive will ensure the Bill is approved, while at the same time urged residents from the area to embrace the Bill that touches on maternal and new born health, as it will be of great benefit since its the only one proposed national wide.

Reproductive Health and Youth Friendly Organization has supported the motion and will offer assistance needed to highlight challenges related to maternal health in the county, as partner Martin Lunalo explained.

Lunalo also asked the CSO to have a memorandum that will enable residents to air their views about the bill as this will ensure no objections will be made once it’s successful.

The Nakuru Maternal and New Born Child Bill, 2014 provides a useful guidance for the county to set priorities relevant to its context and mobilize collective effort involving both levels of government, development partners, civil society and private sector to enhance maternal, child and new born health.

The  the main objective of the Bill is to regulate maternal, new born and child health care.
