Mathioya gets free internet connectivity

Mathioya constituency is now the first to be connected to a commercial Wi-Fi station with an aim of boosting businesses and enabling youths do online marketing and research for students.

Speaking while launching the program at the constituency’s headquarters in Kiriaini town, area MP, Clement Wambugu, said the Wi-Fi is also meant to promote the young to get on board in the ICT world.

Mr Wambugu noted that going by the technology trends, many people are working online and conducting marketing, as well as making online orders and deliveries.

The legislator added that the program would also boost security in surveillance.

Speaking to the media Mwangi Thuo, resident and an online writer, admitted to having used over 5gb of internet every month to make ends meet.

Mwangi now says the programme will not only boost efficiency but also train  the outh on how to earn a living online.

According to area DCC Charles Laboso, the incubation center has enabled the provincial save to the tune of Ksh 600, 000 per year, money that was being used to purchase bundles and other internet costs.

Laboso said that the I-hub will help youths keep away from crime.

He, however, warned youths not to misuse social media by spreading propaganda and hate speech adding that the law will take its course on such perpetrators.
