A section of leaders from Kisii County have endorsed Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for the Deputy President’s seat in the next General Election.
Speaking during a fundraiser for Nyakembene Primary School in Boikang’a Ward, Kisii County, the leaders said Dr. Matiang’i had an impressive track record, hence, he is fit to be the country’s second in command.
Jubilee nominated Senator Millicent Omanga and South Mugirango legislator Silvanus Osoro appealed to any leader seeking the electorate’s support for the presidential position in 2022 to first consider having Matiang’i as their running mate.
“William Ruto is assured of winning the Presidency in 2022 with our brother Fred Matiang’i as the Deputy President, they make a good combination since they are both workaholics,” said Senator Omanga.
Omanga also hit out at Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, whom she termed as a “self-declared Omogusii spokesman,” saying the community did not appoint him to represent them.
Further noting that Arati was a leader in a different region, the former Nairobi Woman Representative aspirant said the community needed representatives who could help them improve their infrastructure and propel development.
MP Osoro, on his part, said the region was looking at a possible DP William Ruto and CS Matiang’i partnership in the 2022 race for the top seat.
“Our brother Matiang’i has performed exemplary in his duties as a Cabinet Secretary for the last five years. We believe he is the best candidate to be the Deputy President in 2022,” said Osoro.
Speaking during the same function, in which about Ksh.3 million was raised, Dr. Matiang’i said it was not time for politics but for elected leaders to perform.
He, however, added that he was not working alone but consulting other leaders on which way to take as the Gusii community.
