Matiangi: Why we deported Miguna Miguna

The government has confirmed the deportation of self-proclaimed NRM general Miguna Miguna to Canada on Tuesday evening.

In a deportation order seen by Citizen Digital, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangí indicated that Miguna “was in the country illegally and his presence in Kenya was contrary to National interest.”

The Interior CS was keen to note that Miguna was not a Citizen of Kenya hence the directive for his ejection from the country.

The order that was signed on February 6, when Miguna was appearing at Kajiado courts and Milimani courts respectively, further directed that Miguna remain in custody while arrangements for his removal were being made.

“… This order is sufficient to warrant to keep the said Miguna Miguna in custody, ” read the order.

This comes just hours after a video showing Miguna aboard a KLM flight departing Nairobi for Amsterdam minutes to 10pm on Tuesday went viral.

On Wednesday at 12.19am, Nexus Kenya, the Jubilee government newsroom posted on its official Twitter account: “Miguna is headed home. The court ordered he gets released and @InteriorKE obeyed the orders and even assisted him with a flight ticket home. Please note he renewed his Canadian Passport on 16th June 2017”.

The High Court in Nairobi had however stopped all cases against him following police failure to produce him at the Milimani court on Tuesday as ordered.
