Matiangi: Reject those conducting early presidential campaigns, spewing hatred

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has urged Kenyans to reject individuals spewing hate, which he said has the potential to plunge Kenya back to the political turmoil witnessed in 2007/08.

According to him, there are individuals trying to endear themselves to the community asking for votes yet the next general elections are two years away.

“Politics of hate being propagated by a section of politicians ahead of the 2022 elections is dangerous for Kenya and the government will deal firmly with the instigators of hate, irrespective of their political or social status,” he said.

He spoke in Nyamira during thanksgiving ceremonies in Makairo and Omwobo SDA churches over the weekend.

Dr. Matiang’i stated that the presidency is a symbol of national unity and the holder of that office must be accorded ample time to deliver his constitutional mandate without the unnecessary distractions currently being witnessed.

The CS urged residents to stand solidly behind President Kenyatta and reject those conducting early presidential campaigns.

He reiterated that peace and national stability is a critical component, pointing out that some youth have fallen prey of the disruptive politics.

Dr. Matiang’i cautioned that social media has been turned into a destructive political battle ground for hatred warning Kenyans to be cautious of how they interact online.

He said the government is keen to create job opportunities for youth and called for patience as leaders streamline some of the challenges facing the various programs designed to empower them.

The CS noted that Kenyans must be allowed to solve their social-political problems peacefully and that this cannot be done in the midst of politically instigated fights.

Dr. Matiang’i was accompanied by Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, Woman Rep Jerusha Momanyi, MPs Ben Momanyi (Borabu) and Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba).
