Matiang’i snubs team probing Ksh.1.5B Ruaraka land saga

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has failed to appear before a Senate team to respond to issues raised over the controversial Ksh.1.5billion Ruaraka land saga.

CS Amina Mohamed, who took over the Education docket from Matiang’i, had told the Senate CPAIC that compensation for the land was not procedural.

According to Senator Moses Kajwang, the Committee wrote a letter to him on July 27, inviting him to respond to the claims over the Ruaraka land.

“It was an invitation not a summon. We have been informed he has other commitments,” he said on Tuesday.

He noted that Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney, Education PS Belio Kipsang as well as officials from the National Lands Commission and Nairobi County had already appeared before the team.

The Senate Committee said they are trying to determine how two schools under Nairobi City County were sold back to the national government.

“The schools were managed by the county council, they were supposed to be transferred to Nairobi County,” Kajwang added.

The Senate team has indicated that the report on the Ruaraka land saga will be tabled next week.

However, the Senators maintain that Matiang’i’s failure to appear before them on Tuesday morning will not affect the report.
