Matiangi suspends leave for security officers during KCSE, KCPE period

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has suspended leave for the country’s security personnel until the national examinations are concluded.

Speaking at the Kenya School of Government in Kabete on Monday, Dr. Matiang’i added that he would also be on duty for the entire period of the examinations, saying his diary had been cleared from October 29 to November 29.

The CS further stated that he has held separate meetings with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as well as the Inspector General of Police and that their main aim is to rid the country of the menace of examination cheating.

“Our resolve has not changed… our mission still remains the same… our focus is still the same… and our commitment is even stronger; that we will deliver clean exams, that we will continue the legacy of honesty and integrity in the way we manage our education system in the country,” said CS Matiang’i.

“I want to assure my colleague who is leading us this year in this exercise, Ambassador Amina Mohamed, that we will give her and the entire team in the education sector 100 per cent support from the security team.”

Matiang’i also stated that his ministry had effectively deployed enough security personnel throughout the country, further assuring parents and Kenyans, in general, of safety to children who will sit the national examinations.

He also fired a warning shot to rogue examination officials, teachers and students saying those caught trying to cheat will be arrested.
