Matiang’i to record statement on multi-billion Ruaraka land saga

The probe into the multi-billion shillings Ruaraka School Land saga could rope in more suspects after Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Hajji returned the files to the anti-corruption body and directed the commission to question more personalities linked to the controversial deal.

The DPP wants the former Attorney General Githu Muigai and Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i to record statements on their role in the Ksh.3.3 billion deal.

Sources within EACC have confirmed that the former AG recorded a statement with the commission on Thursday, and the Interior Cabinet Secretary who had also recorded a statement earlier, could be back at Integrity House on Monday.

EACC had submitted files on 26 individuals recommended for prosecution, including the National Lands Commission chairman Muhammad Swazuri, two commissioners at the lands commission, a principal secretary, and a number of Ministry of lands officials among t others.

Two public schools, ; Ruaraka Secondary School and Drive Inn Primary School, risk being evicted after it emerged they are sitting on private land.

Last month, Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney on Monday told the Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee that the allotment letter issued to Ruaraka High School and Drive Inn Primary School 34 years ago was irregular.

It also emerged that the government only laid claim to the controversial land in March this year despite the fact that it has paid for several other parcels of the land.

CS Karoney told the committee there is no documentation of any government institution acquiring the land despite paying monies for several parcels.

The General Service Unit paid Ksh.2.4 billion for 37.5 acres, the Ministry of Transport through the Kenya Urban Roads Authority paid Ksh.800 million for 2.7 acres but they have no tittle deeds.

The matter came to light after the government paid Ksh.1.5 billion as part of payment in acquiring land for the two schools yet the owner is still claiming Ksh.1.7 billion.
