Matiangi demands sacking of senior police over slapping incident

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has said the senior officer in-charge of Kiamariga Police Station will be disciplined for failing to take action against the man who slapped Ms. Martha Miano.

An angry Matiang’i said the officer had lied to his bosses that the aggressor would be charged in court.

“The regional commissioner Central, told me that the victim had been given a P3 and people who perpetrated that act were supposed to be taken to court yesterday,” the CS revealed.

“When we checked, there was no OB entry, no P3 was written, no report taken and being told these people were going to court was a lie.”

He was speaking during a Parliamentary Security Committee meeting in Mombasa on Friday morning.

The suspect, James Wanjohi, had been arrested but was later released on a Ksh.10,000 cash bail. Mathira West OCPD Birgen Kiptoo confirmed the arrest.

A video captured on phone shows how Ms. Martha Miano was assaulted outside the police station by alleged supporters of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.

The incident followed a confrontation between the MP and election officials during the Ruguru Ward by-election in Nyeri County.

During the security meeting in Mombasa on Friday morning, Matiang’i assured legislators that he is committed to reforming the security sector and there will be no sacred cows.

“We will do our best, it does not mean we are perfect; we will be honest when there are challenges and we will resolve it together and it will not be about tribe, region or where people come from,” he said.
