Matungu MP Justus Murunga arrested in Kakamega
Matungu MP Justus Murunga was on Saturday arrested over alleged connection with the recent Matungu killings that left 12 people dead.
Murunga becomes the fourth politician to be arrested in just under 24 hours over alleged links to the killings in Kakamega County.
Currently, police are holding former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala over the same.
Echesa was arrested on Friday moments after leaving a meeting in Malinya in Ikolomani, where DP William Ruto had addressed area leaders.
Echesa is currently detained at Kakamega Central police station.
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala was nabbed by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisumu County.
Malala is currently detained at Kisumu Central Police Station.
Over 30 people were injured in the attacks that saw Interior CS Fred Matiang’i send officers from the General Service Unit to Kakamega County.
On May 7, residents staged a demonstration the Ejinja Administration Police Camp, angry and frustrated over the alleged lack of intervention.
The attacks have led to the transfer of the area OCS and the AP officers there, the new team in some way providing new hope to the residents.
