Matungu MP Justus Murunga dies in Mumias

Matungu Member of Parliament, Justus Murunga has died.

The 60-year-old legislator, the family confirmed, died on Saturday night after developing breathing complications.

He had been rushed to the St.Mary’s Hospital in Mumias.

According to reports, the MP had a fortnight ago been admitted to the Agha Khan Hospital in Kisumu where he was treated for Diabetes and Hypertension.

He had been recovering at his home until Saturday when he developed breathing difficulties.

According to the Nation, earlier in the day, the bubbly MP had welcomed guests at his home and even made plans for the installation of a water tank.

He would later collapse when going upstairs.

Deputy President William Ruto mourned the MP as a “Focused, hardworking and visionary leader who relentlessly advocated for the empowerment of the people”.

ODM leader Raila Odinga also sent condolences to the family of the MP saying: “My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Hon Justus Murunga. My thoughts are with the people of Matungu for losing their leader at the tail end of his first term. May his Soul Rest In Eternal Peace.”

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya mourned the legislator as selfless leader who worked closely with the county governor to develop Matungu.
