Mau evictees demand resettlement before end of year

Mau evictees who have been camping at Neissut internally displaces persons’ (IDP) camp have called on the government to ensure they are resettled before the end of the year.

Margaret Gathoni, who is a member of the national consultative committee on IDPs, urged the government to ascertain the identities of the IDPs who did not receive their compensation due to errors in government records.

“Some people were not compensated due to minor errors in the register and the government should be fair enough to consider them,” Gathoni said.

She added that there was a number of IDPs who sought refuge away from the camps and missed chances for registration.

On this, she called on the government to consider them for compensation since there were clear details indicating that they too were affected.
