Mau Mau veterans want streets named after them

Mau Mau war veterans have presented a petition to Narok County Assembly seeking recognition and honor through naming of institutions, roads and streets after them.

The veterans led by their spokesman Gitu wa Kahengeri who gave out the petition have said the national government has forgotten about most heroes and that counties were best fit to remember them.

Wa Kahengeri requested the national and Narok county governments to at least set up a cultural research university named after Mau Mau freedom fighters from the county.

The veterans also want Narok County to factor in a pension kitty for them citing that most of them were struggling to benefit from medical care and general upkeep.

Narok Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs committee chair Kuntai ole Kool, who received the petition, stated that he will table it for debate mentioning that freedom fighters deserve recognition.
