Mavoko Deputy Returning Officer arrested for ‘threatening’ party agent
Maendeleo Chap Chap party (MCC) agent, Winfred Mwenza, has filed a case against Onesmus Kaloki, who was the Deputy Returning Officer for Mavoko Constituency in the just concluded General Election for coercing her to surrender signed copies of Mavoko’s form 34A.
Addressing the press, Mwenza said she received distressing calls from Mavoko Constituency Returning Officer, Chacha Mwita, and his deputy Mr Kaloki, pressuring her to hand over all the signed copies of the final tally.
The Deputy Returning Officer, who is now a suspect, was first detained at Mlolongo Police Station on Monday, where he was interrogated by Criminal Investigation Department officers (CID), before being transferred to Machakos town, where he was further grilled by a multi-agency team led by the County Criminal Investigation Officers.
“I want to confirm to you that we have the suspect, Onesmus Kaloki, who was arrested yesterday in Mlolongo by CID officers after a complaint was launched by agents of Maendeleo Chap Chap Party,” County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO), Jonah Kirui said.
According to Ms Joyceline Nzeki, who was a chief agent for MCCP in Mavoko Constituency, the suspect might have had the intent to alter the forms in anticipation of an election petition filed by Machakos Gubernatorial candidate, Wavinya Ndeti to challenge Governor Alfred Mutua’s victory.
However, County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO), Jonah Kirui, maintained the matter was still under investigation and an opinion was yet to be formed whether the accused person had any specific intentions asserting that they might be forced to release the suspect on a police bond, pending investigations following provisions of the 24-hours.
