Mbadi accuses DP Ruto of misusing State resources for Kibra campaign

National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi now wants legal action taken against DP William Ruto for allegedly misusing public resources.

Speaking during Citizen TV’s Daybreak show on Tuesday, Mbadi said it is against electoral laws to use public resources to woo voters.

He claimed that the DP and his candidate MacDonald Mariga have used State resources in rallying voters ahead of the Kibra mini-poll slated for November 7.

Mbadi was referring to meetings held with leaders at the DP’s official residence in Karen where Mariga was also present.

A spot check on Dr. Ruto’s social media pages shows that he hosted several leaders from across Nairobi County on October 8 this year.

During the meeting, the DP talked about the Big Four Agenda saying that Kibra and other informal settlements in Nairobi will be among the major beneficiaries of the government’s housing plan.

He urged leaders in the grassroots to ensure that the housing plan is realised for every Kenyan.

Four days earlier, the DP had held a meeting to drum up support for Mariga who is the Jubilee candidate for Kibra.

Mbadi, who is also the ODM party national chairman, further called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to forward the matter to DPP Noordin Haji for prosecution.

The Constitution defines public resources as any vehicle, equipment or premises owned or occupied by, any government, state organ, statutory corporation or a company in which the Government owns a controlling interest.

The Elections Act further states that: “Except as authorized under this Act or any other written law, a candidate, referendum committee or other person shall not use public resources for the purpose of campaigning during an election or a referendum.”
