Mbadi claims DP Ruto allies plan to impeach Matiang’i
Minority Leader John Mbadi claims there is a plot by allies of Deputy President William Ruto to initiate an impeachment motion against Interior CS Fred Matiang’i over the fake gold scam.
According to Mbadi, who is also the chairman of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the MPs are seeking to impeach Matiang’i for gross misconduct and abuse of office in relation to his alleged involvement in the saga.
“The target of Ruto and his team is one Fred Matiang’i. I have information that two nondescript MPs–one from South Rift and another from Murang’a County have been tasked with the responsibility to draft an impeachment motion against Fred Matiang’i for his removal from office,” Mbadi said on Monday.
He further alleged that the Ruto side of Government has been feeling shortchanged and have blown the fake gold scam out of proportion to net CS Matiang’i.
Matiang’i’s name was mentioned in a leaked audio where a man believed to be Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula is heard speaking to an angry businessman presumed to be a representative of Dubai PM Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Mbadi claims that the Ruto faction has been feeling frustrated by the Interior CS after his elevation to a position seemingly equivalent to Chief Minister.
“Since Matiang’i was given this added responsibility of coordinating government functions, the Deputy President has been very unhappy and together with his team. They are thinking that they have found an opportunity to deal with Matiang’i,” he said.
“I want to tell them as a member of the National Assembly, as the Leader of Minority, that we are aware of their schemes and that we will deal with it accordingly,” Mbadi added.
Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen was quick to take on Mbadi saying in his tweet:
“Mbadi stop fake stories.Sheikh has said it’s either the gold or face the consequences.advice your boss to take the threats seriously. Those are not people to joke with unless you don’t read current affairs. Call for harambee but unfortunately gold&silver have we none!”
Nandi Senator Samson Cheragey in a statement to newsrooms terms Mbadi’s remarks as hot air, cheap publicity and as fake as the gold in question.
Cheragey further added that Mbadi should divert attention and instead advise his party leader that the Sheikh has said he wants gold or his money back.
However, Mbadi retorted saying: “The fact that a conman says if you don’t give me money I’m going to talk to so and so does not make that person he is referring to become a culprit.”
On his part, Nominated MP David Ole Sankok posed: “How can we drag the name of Raila Odinga…Baba…we respect him so much…but we are shocked that he is in Congo…and the gold is supposed to originate from Congo all the way to United Arab Emirates…These are his own political allies.”
