Mbeere elders refuse to endorse Senator Kivuti

A section of Mbeere Council of Elders has withdrawn the endorsement of Senator Lenny Kivuti for gubernatorial seat, saying that politicians should stop using them for their selfish political ambitions.

The elders said that some of their colleagues were coerced into endorsing Kivuti’s bid when they approached him on Mwea land tussles.

Led by their secretary Machaki Kanyenji, the elders said that the continuous misuse of the Council of Elders would lead to dangerous realignments that might lead to disunity among the people of Embu.

The elders further noted that the politicians need to respect decisions by various parties in a negotiated democratic process.

They also added that the council needs to maintain respect they have in the society as it contributes to peace in the community.
