MCA turns down Cecily Mbarire’s offer for running mate

Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire’s bid for the Embu Gubernatorial seat has suffered a set back after her preferred running mate, Mavuria MCA Joseph Mwaniki publicly turned downed down the offer.

Mr Mwaniki said that Mbarire’s policies did not match his transformative and visionary thinking, adding that his conscience would not allow him to accept the offer.

The MCA further claimed that after assessing her leadership prowess he found her incapable of leading the county to prosperity, but added that he would seek reelection as MCA and support Senator Lenny Kivuti’s bid at the gubernatorial seat.

Mr Mwaniki attributed his decision to what he termed as a consistent and sustained development record by Kivuti.

The MCA also claimed that his work in transforming his ward into an economic hub was incomplete since his dream was thwarted by an oppressive county government that had strived to marginalise his people.

Mr Mwaniki, who is also the County Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee chairman, claimed he was pained to see each year’s budgetary allocation to Embu County squandered in reckless abandon by Governor Martin Wambora’s administration.

The MCA also apologised to the electorate saying he was charged with the mandate of making the county budget and handing it over to the governor’s office for implementation of development projects; but said he watched helplessly as signboards were erected for work that had not been done.

He further poked holes into the current county executive regime saying Embu had nothing to show for the Ksh.16 billion allocated to the county since 2013.

Mr Mwaniki said the county needed a manager to take charge of the County Treasury and arrest the unabated runaway graft witnessed in the last four years.
