MCAs want youth hired to clean the city
The Nairobi County Assembly wants Governor Evans Kidero to hire 1,000 youth on casual basis to collect garbage in the city, in what they term as a major clean up.
The Assembly says that the exercise will unemployment, which will automatically reduce crime rates in the capital.
MCA Peter Imwatok, who is behind the motion, said the youth should be hired to clean up the city from one estate to the other.
The MCA brought the motion before the House after city residents raised questions over huge garbage deposits in several city streets.
The MCAs have accused City Hall of failing to put in place proper strategies to streamline waste disposal.
Imwatok says uncontrolled garbage disposal has led to blockage of the drainage system and this has led to constant floods every time it rains in the city.
