McDonald Mariga presents papers to Jubilee for interview in Kibra MP seat

Former Kenyan international McDonald Mariga on Monday officially presented his papers to the Jubilee Party for consideration to vie for the Kibra Parliamentary seat.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Jubilee Communications Director Albert Memusi said Mariga was among 19 other candidates seeking the party’s ticket ahead of the Kibra by-election slated for November 7, 2019.

According to Mr. Memusi, the interviews – conducted by the party’s National Elections Board, chaired by Andrew Musangi – began at 9am.

“He (Mariga) came in and presented his papers for the interview, which is a vetting of sorts. There are 19 candidates and all of them have to go through the interview, some of them may be dropped,” said Mr. Memusi.

The former UEFA Champions league winner was escorted to the Jubilee headquarters by a host of supporters who engaged in singing and dancing.

The Kibra MP seat, which fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth, has attracted a number of candidates from various parties.

Former Raila Odinga aide Eliud Owalo was last week unveiled as Musalia Mudavadi-led Amani National Congress (ANC) party’s candidate in the race while Eng. Khamisi Butichi will fly the Ford Kenya party’s flag.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party will on September 7 hold its nominations which will see 11 aspirants who have since been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) go head-to-head.

Among them include popular DJ Kriss Darlin (Chris Odhiambo), Dagoretti High School Principal Peter Orero, ODM National Youth Coordinator Benson Musungu as well as late MP Ken Okoth’s brother Imran Okoth.
