Medical personnel demand security after abduction of 2 Cuban doctors

By Abchun Abdi

Medical personnel in Kilifi County now want security to be beefed up in health facilities to ensure their security is guaranteed following the abduction of Cuban doctors in Mandera.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the doctors complained that most health facilities in the county are manned only by security guards who are unable to combat any incidents in case of an attack.

Malindi Medical Superintendent Evans Ogato said medical personnel require security since terrorists could target any doctor regardless of whether they are Kenyan or Cuban.

Mr. Ogeto added that Malindi DCI boss has since assured the medical personnel of stringent security measures beginning Monday.

This comes following news that two Cuban doctors were abducted and their bodyguard killed in Mandera town on Friday.

Police Spokesman Charles Owino confirmed the incident saying “They were abducted on their way to work and the vehicle that was ferrying the doctors has been recovered. We have arrested the driver who is currently being interrogated.”

Witnesses claimed the kidnappers, who are suspected to be Al-Shabaab militants, crossed over to Somalia with their captives.
