Medics want more rehabs constructed

Medics now want the Government to roll out a mass counseling for the alcoholics; by constructing rehabilitation centers across the country.

Speaking on behalf of the medics, Njagi Kumantha – a psychiatrist – said that counseling addicts will be the next step in the fight against illicit brews.

According to Kumantha, the fight against illicit brew can only be won if addicts’ strong desire for alcohol is controlled.

He warned that if the addicts deprived of alcohol and not closely monitored, they will turn to other addictives like miraa and bhang which have similar effects to alcohol.

Following the President’s directive on second generation brews, the addicts have experienced reduced supply of alcohol and as a result some may opt to different drugs.

He further called on the Government to increase the rehabilitation centers and make them affordable and friendly.

Statistics show that only Mathari Hospital in Nairobi offers such services.
