Memorial service for a doctor killed in Mpeketoni held

A memorial service for the late Fred Mwaura, a doctor who was killed in the Mpeketoni attacks, was held on June 14th, 2015 which marked a year since the attack.

Family members and friends of Mwaura converged at Kithugururu Catholic church in Embu for a thanksgiving and commemoration mass with a call for peace and unity among Kenyans.

Catherine Murage, mother to the deceased, said that one year after the death of his son, her life has not been the same since she has been living in a constant fear.

She says that whenever an attack is reported, it rekindles the memories of her son.

She further says that her son met his death just a day after he had reported to the area after he had been transferred to the area as a Medical Health officer in charge of Mpeketoni health facility.

The family said that despite the fact that Mpeketoni happened, the government has been slow in preventing other attacks and called upon Kenyans to be each other’s keeper in order to win the fight against terrorism.

The Mpeketoni attack left at least 68 people dead and scores injured.
