Memusi is In Tray, What Awaits Kajiado Central MP Elect

Memusi, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), candidate will now be tasked to deliver on his campaign promises. But even as he does this, what ails Kajiado Central?

Kajiado Central is one of the five constituencies that make up Kajiado County. Others are Kajiado North which is represented by MP Joseph Manje, Kajiado South represented by Katoo Ole Metito, Kajiado West represented by Moses Ole Sakuda and Kajiado East represented by Peris Toiko.

ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

Kajiado Central is majorly a pastoralist area with 77% of the population earning their livelihood from cattle rearing.

Among the key issues residents are keenly following include dairy farming which forms the economic backbone for a large segment of the population.

The residents will also be focusing on value addition and marketing of their livestock. Livestock in Kajiado central provides a huge market for beef and goat meat, with over 1,500 animals being slaughtered daily for its market.

Although Kajiado central’s climate is not conducive for agriculture, Mr. Memusi will have to address the growing number of farmers that are engaged in irrigation farming to support subsistence crop farming.

Other major economic activities that Memusi will have to focus on include tourism, commodity trading which is carried out both in shops and open-air markets, sand harvesting, quarrying and soda ash mining at Lake Magadi.

EDUCATION AND HEALTH

On Education, Memusi will now face the uphill task of improving infrastructure in schools besides sensitizing the community on the importance of education.

Although there are several hospitals and health centres in Kajiado Central, the state of healthcare in the rural areas is in deplorable shape and residents walk for long distances to access medical facilities. The residents will be keen to see how Memusi tackles such.
