Meru assistant chief issues shoot-to-kill order

An assistant chief in Igembe South, Meru County, has issued a shoot-to-kill order to his officers.

Samuel Mwika Katheru, assistant chief for Kianda sub-location in Kanuni ward ordered area Administration Police officers to shoot and kill criminals terrorizing his area of jurisdiction using crude weapons such as machetes.

The order comes after Mr. Mwika previously issued a stern warning to those using machetes to commit offences and harming local residents.

The administrator gave the order after a Miraa guard was found dead in a plantation at Kaleine village.

According to preliminary investigations, the 38-year-old guard was allegedly killed elsewhere before his body was dumped in the Miraa plantation.

Police in the area urged residents to volunteer information that would lead to arrest of the culprits.
