Meru community leaders decry underrepresentation in new Jubilee Party officials team

Leaders from the Meru community have decried under-representation in the new Jubilee Party officials’ team in Isiolo County.

The Meru community leaders, led by Bulapesa Ward MCA Moses Githinji and his Wabera Ward counterpart Salesio Kiambi, say the election of interim Jubilee Party officials held in Isiolo County on Friday was unfair.

The leaders claim that Meru community was only given one seat out of the available 19 in the Jubilee Party officials’ team, despite being the second largest ethnic group in Isiolo County.

The Meru community leaders are now calling on the National Party secretariat to revoke the election outcome and have the exercise redone afresh in Isiolo, failure to which the community “will consider moving to other parties”.

Jubilee Party election team leader David Koech called for sobriety among the aspirants, urging the delegates be accommodative of members of other communities, a notion that was immediately disputed by the Meru community leaders.

Despite the grievances raised, the exercise of selecting Jubilee Party officials in Isiolo County went on uninterrupted.

The delegates had earlier deliberated, for several hours, before they came into an agreement to opt for a consensus instead of the anticipated voting process.

Nineteen Party officials were selected and took oath that they would provide a fair platform to all aspirants who would want Jubilee nomination ahead of August, 2017 polls.

The party officials emphasized that they would not run for any elective post.
