Meru County Speakers bodyguard shot dead in Nairobi

A bodyguard attached to Meru County Assembly speaker Joseph Kaberia was Sunday morning shot dead at Kamiti Corner area in Nairobi.

The officer; Constable Samuel Munga, is believed to have been killed by the speaker’s driver, Andrew Nabea following an alleged argument.

The speaker, who was not present during the 3am shootout, confirmed the incident saying: “…We lost our dedicated security officer. My driver Andrew Mwithalii got injured but is admitted at the hospital.”

“Relevant national security organs have taken charge and have commenced investigations,” said Kaberia in a statement.

Reports indicate that the driver was dropping off the bodyguard at his sister’s house at Kamiti Corner when a scuffle ensued between them outside the gate.

Police sources indicate that neighbours reported hearing the two arguing before gun shots rent the air.

The driver sustained a gunshot wound and is admitted at the Ruaraka Neema Hospital in Kasarani area, where the bodyguard, who had been shot several times in the chest, was confirmed dead.

Police sources indicate that a total of 17 spent cartridges were recovered at the scene.

Preliminary investigations, however, indicate that all the fired bullets came from the driver’s gun as the bodyguard’s firearm had all 15 rounds of ammunition intact.
