Meru Governors Election Nullified
Three Court of Appeal Judges sitting in Nyeri – Martha Koome, Alnashir Visram and Otieno Odek – nullified Munya’s election citing massive irregularities.
The petition was filed by former Education Assistant Minister Dr Kilemi Mwiria.
The Meru High Court had earlier dismissed the petition prompting Dr Mwiria to lodge an appeal.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had termed Munya's election free and fair.
Munya is now the second governor to lose his seat through a court petition after Siaya Governor Cornel Amoth Rasanga who however recaptured the seat in a by-election.
Munya's counterpart in Embu county Martin Nyagah Wambora lost his seat through an impeachment.
