Meru MCA threatens woman after breaking her leg

A single mother of two from Nkinyang’a village in Kangeta, Meru County wants area Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Romano Mwito arrested for allegedly hitting her with his car.

Esther Kabotia alleges that the MCA hit her with his car breaking her leg.

The mother of two, who survives by burning charcoal and selling firewood, says she met the ordeal last month while rushing to a shop in Kangeta market.

The woman was allegedly hit by the MCA’s car after alighting from a bus she was travelling in.

The vehicle’s rear wheel ran over her leg breaking it on the ankle joint.

She was taken to Maua General Hospital by the MCA who she says abandoned her.

Kabotia added that the driver of the vehicle told her the vehicle was insured and the insurance was to be responsible for compensating her and paying her bills.

Fridah Kathuraniri, her neighbor, has since been her aide and visits her regularly as well as cook for her children.

Igembe South Police Boss Jane Nyakeruma, however, said she had not received any report of the accident and asked the woman to record it again.

The MCA has since denied the allegations saying the matter is a political strategy by his opponents to paint him in bad light.

Kabotia said the MCA’s family has been threatening her to refrain from making any further allegations and should she do so, they will cater for all expenses and compensate her.
