Meru people will pick Ruto over Munya in 2022 – Senator Kiraitu

Senator Kiraitu Murungi addresses the public at a past event.

Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi has stated that the region would support Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential elections.

Speaking at Methodist Church in Igembe North on Sunday, Kiraitu rubbished Meru Governor Peter Munya’s interest in the 2022 seat saying there is no way he could win the race by relying on the support of Meru region only.

“If Governor Munya is serious about running for president in 2022 he should be visiting other counties to hunt for votes since Meru only cannot guarantee him the seat,” he said.

Kiraitu further stated that Munya’s campaign for the 2022 race is a plot to help him win re-election in the 2017 polls, adding that he would be in the race for the seat.

The two leaders have been at loggerheads since Kiraitu announced his interest in the governor’s seat.

The Senator has accused Munya of laxity in service delivery saying the people of Meru deserved a better leader that would improve their living standards.

Munya was among the leaders that opposed the dissolution of Jubilee Coalition affiliate parties in favour of Jubilee Party saying doing so would erase the region’s identity.

He also vowed to run against DP Ruto in the 2022 presidential race calling on the region to support him.
