Migori contractors halt projects over lack of payment

Migori County’s Association of Contractors has threatened to take Governor Okoth Obado to court within 14 days over the county government’s failure to pay their dues.

The contractors stalled the projects that were tendered to them due to failure by the County Government of Migori to pay them Sh133 million for work done.

The chairman of the association, Oucho Ogada, said they have been looked down upon despite some of them having completed their projects before being paid a single cent.

“Contractors have gone through a lot of stress. Some of them have children in their houses that have not been able to go to school. Others have had properties auctioned by financial institutions,” said Ogada.

Mr Ogada further stated they successfully finished all their businesses and delivered on all their contracts but were yet to be paid, adding that the county government had promised to settle their dues within 30 days but failed to honour its promise.

“Today we are giving the governor of Migori County 14 days to effect the pending payments to the contractors of this association, failure to which we will sue him,” said Ogada.
