Migori contractors threaten mass action over county debts

Migori County contractors have issued a 14-day notice to the County Government to pay them their arrears amounting to over Ksh 600 million failure to which they will call for mass action.

The contractors, who have been working on various county projects, said they will have no other option but to go to streets to force the county government to pay their dues.

Led by their Secretary, Godness Oucho, the contractors accused the county government of neglecting some and paying those who are closer to the county executive and Members of the County Assembly.

They further said that most of the unpaid projects are those that have been completed and some goods were supplied over an year ago.

Mr Oucho said they have sought the help of the county assembly through a petition submitted to the office of the clerk in October 2016 but nothing has been realized so far.

He added that projects which were under the Ward Development Funds and which fall directly into the hands of the county assembly have not been paid even though the projects were completed long time ago.

The contractor said some of them who borrowed loans from the bank risk losing their property as they are staring at possible auction.

They are now appealing to the National Chamber of Commerce and the Members of Parliament from Migori County to intervene and make sure they are paid.

Efforts to reach Migori County Secretary, Christopher Rosana, were futile as calls went unanswered.
