Migori county assembly allocates funds for car grants

Migori County Assembly and the department of lands and physical planning are set to benefit more from the county second supplementary budget.

In the first supplementary budget and the original budget for the financial years 2020/2021 respectively, they have been allocated Ksh.9.15billion up from the Ksh. 8.9billion and Ksh. 8.1billion respectively.

Migori County Assembly has a total of 57 MCAs. Out of the additional Ksh.129million allocated to the county assembly, Ksh. 120million is for the MCAs car grant.

The assembly received addition Ksh. 129million in its recurrent budget while the Department of Land, Housing and Physical planning received additional Ksh. 147million for development.

The Health Department also received additional Ksh.58million in the recurrent budget with the total allocation now at Ksh.2.15 billion.

But as some departments get additional funds in the second supplementary budget, others have had their budget slashed by a sizeable amount.

Among the affected departments are the county executive Department of Water and Energy, Trade and Tourism as well as Transport which received budget reductions of Ksh.25million, Ksh. 19.8million and Ksh. 10million respectively.

The supplementary budget was tabled by the county assembly budget and appropriation committee chairperson Thomas Akungo and endorsed by the MCAs.

Some of the MCAs led by Abedi Maroa (Masaba ward rep) said they are happy that the budget includes the car grant which they have been looking forward to for many years.
