Migori County Gov’t employees decry unpaid salaries
Workers of the Migori County Government are an unhappy lot after the county government allegedly failed to pay them their salaries for the month of August on time.
A section of county employees who spoke to radio Ramogi confirmed that they are yet to receive their salaries, adding that they have not received any communication from the county government on the fate of their August 2016 salaries.
Speaking to radio Ramogi, Migori County civil of servants’ union secretary general, Dr Alex Otieno, confirmed that county employees are yet to receive the money.
He said the department concerned told the union that part of the money set aside for salaries was used to pay the employees’ loan deductions for the month of November and December 2015 which were never remitted, and that they are looking for money elsewhere to pay all employees.
The secretary general said the county treasury has promised to pay all the salaries by tomorrow (Wednesday) urging employees to be patient.
Dr Alex said the union has given the county government up to Wednesday to pay all the salaries, failure to which they will call for mass action.
The County Government of Migori, through the director of press in the office of the governor Mr Nicholas Anyuor, said they are going to settle the issues of employees’ salaries in the course of this week.
