Migori County puts in place security plan ahead of 2017 polls

Police in Migori are working on a security plan ahead of the 2017 election to ensure adequate deployment of security personnel at polling stations and tallying centres.

Migori County Police Commander David Kirui said that just sixteen months to the 2017 General Election, there is need to put in place detailed plans to prevent chaotic scenes.

Kirui said they want to establish deficiency in the number of security personnel in Migori County before the election so that they can request for more in good time to avoid last minute rush.

He said they are also mapping out regions that are prone to violence during election including Rongo, Nyatike, and Awendo so that more security personnel are deployed appropriately.

Kirui said all OCPDs in Migori County have until the end of Tuesday to compile a list of polling stations and tallying centres in their areas of jurisdiction so that they can know the number of police officers required.

He assured the public of better security during and after 2017 elections urging them to work closely with the police to ensure that peace prevails in the county.
