Migori County workers threaten to paralyse services over unpaid salaries

Workers in Migori County have given the county government up to Monday, April 11, to pay their salaries for the month of March 2017 failure to which will down their tools and demonstrate to the county finance office to demand the payment.

Migori County Government Workers Union Executive Secretary Baraza Nguka said that the Okoth Obado-led government has not communicated despite the delay in paying the salaries.

Nguka advised his members to go on a go-slow insisting that they are allowed by the law to do so in case the employer delays the salary by more than five days without a proper explanation.

Nguka blamed the situation on the county government’s poor communication strategy, adding that the issue should have been resolved if there were timely communication between the government and its workers.

The workers union executive secretary disclosed that workers have issues in their homes over unpaid rents and bills.

A similar delay of salaries in Migori County took place in the month of February where the salary was delayed by ten days.
