Migori: Family of five die in house fire

Five family members including a mother, father and their three children died in a house fire at Kamgundho location in Uriri, Migori County.

Area chief Mr. Samuel Onjiko confirmed the incident saying the five were sleeping when the fire broke out in their house at around midnight on Saturday, December 23.

The victims were identified as Daniel Osuju Ochuodho, 55, Lencer Aoko, 35, Cynthia, 13, Basil, 6, and a one-year-old child.

Mr. Onjiko said the father and the three children died at the scene of the fire while the mother succumbed to her injuries on Sunday morning at St. Joseph Omboo hospital while undergoing treatment.

The Chief said the four bodies that were collected at the fire scene were taken to Rapcom Hopsital mortuary while the body of the woman who succumbed today morning was moved to St. Jospeh Omboo mission Hospital mortuary.

Uriri Administration Police Commandant Michael Ojwang said they suspect the incident was an arson attack; however he said they are still conducting investigation to establish the cause of the fire.

Mr. Ojwang appealed to the locals to remain calm and give police time to investigate the matter conclusively.
