Migori: IEBC clears ODM, Independent senatorial candidates

Two senatorial candidates for the Migori by-election were on Thursday cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Ochilo Ayacko of ODM and independent candidate Dickson Ogola Ogola were cleared and can now start campaigning for the October 8 by-election which fell vacant following the death of Senator Ben Oluoch Okello who succumbed to throat cancer on June 19, 2018.

Migori County IEBC County Returning Officer Ruth Kulundu confirmed that the electoral body had cleared the two aspirants saying a third candidate Eddy Oketch of the Federal Party of Kenya was expected to present his papers.

Mr. Ayacko had a major entourage that accompanied him including; Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, Uriri MP Mark Nyamitta, Nyatike MP Tom Odege, Awendo MP Walter Owino and Migori County Women Rep Pamela Odhiambo.

Ms. Kulundu said a total of seven candidates expressed interest to run for the Migori senatorial seat and are expected to submit their nomination papers to the IEBC for clearance on Friday, August 10, 2018.

Other candidates expected to present their nomination papers to IEBC include; Former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno (National Liberal Party) Solomon Hodo (PDP), Paul Odhiambo Odongo (Kenya National Congress) and Samwel Otieno (Independent candidate).
