Migori: Locals ‘arrest’, hand over two murder suspects to police

Residents of Nyarago village in Awendo, Migori County, on Sunday conducted a citizen’s arrest and handed over to the police two murder suspects.

The duo is suspected to have participated in the brutal killing of Jennifer Malago, a retired teacher, whose lifeless body was found lying in a pool of her own blood in her house on May 15, 2019.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Isack Ojiambo Owiro – the deceased’s brother – said the locals opted to take the matter into their own hands since the police had “failed to arrest the suspects despite several reports made to Awendo Police Station about their alleged involvement in the murder.”

According to Mr. Ojiambo, the police had shown a lot of laxity in investigating the case, adding that he wants to see proper probe done so that his family can get justice for their kin.

Confirming the citizen’s arrests, Awendo sub-county Police Commander Mary Musyoka said the two are presently detained at Awendo Police Station where they are being probed over the murder.
