Migori: Man attacks wife with panga, chops off her finger

A 43-year-old woman is recuperating at Migori Level Four Hospital after she was attacked and one of her fingers chopped off by her husband during a domestic conflict in Rapogi, Migori County, on January 2, 2019.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Monica Otieno said she had a disagreement with her husband – Maurice Otieno – before he attacked her with a machete (panga.)

The couple had been married for 26 years before Mrs. Otieno left their matrimonial home last year citing constant domestic wrangles. She, however, returned on December 30, 2018 after reconciliation.

Mrs. Otieno added that she thought they had shelved their marital differences but on January 1, 2019, her husband openly told her he was no longer interested in the marriage and asked her to leave the house immediately.

Despite threats from Mr. Otieno, who even revealed his secret love affair with another woman, the victim said she remained put until the night of January 2 when he attacked her with a panga a few hours after their family members held a crisis meeting to solve their differences.

One of her fingers was chopped off and she sustained several panga cuts on the back during the attack.

Confirming the incident, Uriri OCPD Benjamin Mwanzia said they are pursuing the suspect who is currently at large.
